Scheduling Study

Printable version

Finding time for study doesn’t need to be complex. Let’s step it out, so you can step it UP!

Visibility

Get a big calendar. Laminate a reusable monthly template. Get a diary. Go digital. Bottom line... Track your progress!

Chunk Time

List your commitments. Block out everyday events and time for yourself. When will you wake up and crash for the night? What time is class? Are you working? Got regular training, chores, or responsibilities? Chalk them up. Yes, they can be flexible, but consistency is our friend.

Quick Maths

Divide the remaining time by the number of subjects you study, and allocate! It’s okay to have 1 hour split into 2 x 30 minutes on separate days.

Adjustments

Let’s be honest, some topics will require more effort than others. Rank your subjects by priority. You can reallocate time from a subject you are more confident in to something that requires a bit more brain power and practice.

Homework vs Study

Homework involves completing tasks set by an educator at home. It could be part of the ‘everyday’ stuff.
Study is all you. These are activities that train your brain to recall and apply knowledge. Preparation and skills mastery.

Things to Incorporate

Memory is strengthened over time. You will want to revisit material to help retain information.
Take breaks. Don’t go for hours. 25 minutes of study focus, 5 minutes of brain timeout. Get up, stretch, have a drink, get some fresh air.
Accountability is key! Set reminders. Keep your schedule visible—on the fridge, your phone, your study wall.
A helping hand can go a long way. Ask someone to prompt you when to get started, and when to take a breather.
Challenge is good. Find something hard, and keep at it. When frustrations rise, it’s time to move on—revisit it later.
Set goals and track them. Celebrate those wins. You’re working toward something bigger!
